RFID makes self-service equipment rental practical for Speedy Services

Speedy Services, the UK equipment rental and support provider, needed a more efficient way to run on-site depots for customers who wanted flexible, pay-as-you-go access to tools and equipment. Its existing model required a staffed van and employee to stay on site, making the service expensive and hard to scale. Speedy worked with HID Global, using RFID hardware and custom tags, to find a reliable solution for harsh construction-site conditions.

HID Global helped Speedy deploy the ePod™ self-service rental system, an unmanned RFID-enabled container that automates check-in, checkout, and asset tracking with real-time reporting to Speedy’s systems. The result was better equipment utilization, lower staffing and transport costs, reduced paperwork and phone calls, and reduced CO2 emissions. Five ePods were initially deployed, with 30 more planned by year-end, creating a new revenue stream and giving customers 24/7 access to equipment.
