Ocado, the world’s largest online-only grocery retailer, needed a more reliable RFID approach for its highly automated smart warehouses, where thousands of robots are tracked on a metal grid in ambient and chill environments. Ocado worked with HID Global and CoreRFID to find an off-the-shelf solution that could meet the operational demands, cost targets, and ease-of-deployment requirements of the Ocado Smart Platform.

HID Global helped deliver a custom-built integrated RFID tag, based on the Sentry 5706 - FIT 210, after joint trials to improve fixing reliability and temperature performance. The solution enabled Ocado to exceed cost and delivery targets and helped remove delays to wider technology adoption in its automated warehouses, improving the reliability of robot tracking across the platform.
