A HID Global Case Study
Newmont, a global mining company, needed a better way to monitor staff and vehicle movement at its remote Peñasquito mine in rural Mexico, where there were no traditional entry points and often no internet connectivity. The company turned to HID Global and Alutel Mobility’s tablet-based access control solution, using HID Global Seos cards and OMNIKEY reader modules to support mobile authentication in the field.
HID Global helped Newmont deploy a flexible access control system on Alutel Mobility RAGTAB tablets, enabling guards to verify credentials on-site, even offline, and sync data later. The results were strong: Newmont went from “zero control to complete control,” now processing about 112,000 authentication events each month, including roughly 19,200 ID validations on the tablets, and it has already expanded from 21 tablets with plans to add eight more.
