Case Study: Netflix enhances mobile access security with HID Global

A HID Global Case Study

Preview of the Netflix Case Study

Netflix replaces low-frequency keyfobs and tags with mobile phones for physical access control in pilot program using HID Global’s iCLASS SE platform with multiCLASS SE readers and iCLASS Seos digital keys

Netflix, the world's leading internet subscription service for movies and TV shows, sought to modernize its employee on-boarding process and enhance physical security by moving away from traditional keyfobs. Their challenge was to provide a more streamlined and secure access control solution that aligned with their mobile and innovative culture. To address this, they partnered with vendor HID Global on a mobile access pilot.

HID Global implemented a solution using its iCLASS SE platform, multiCLASS SE readers, and iCLASS Seos digital keys. The pilot involved provisioning employee smartphones with digital keys, allowing them to open doors by simply presenting their phone. The results were highly positive, with over 80% of participants finding the application intuitive and 87.5% wanting to use their smartphone to open all doors at Netflix. The pilot also delivered improved security through mutual authentication and demonstrated that mobile access made Netflix a more exciting place to work for 81.3% of respondents.
