Nemours Children’s Health System Enhances Patient Experience with HID Global EPCS Solution

Nemours Children's Health System, a large integrated health system, faced challenges with an inconvenient, paper-based process for prescribing controlled substances. This system created long pharmacy wait times, was costly, and prevented physicians from issuing prescriptions during telemedicine sessions. They sought a DEA-compliant Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances (EPCS) solution from HID Global that could integrate with their Epic EHR and be simple for physicians to use from any location.

HID Global implemented an integrated EPCS solution using its ActivID Credential Management System and FIPS 140.2 certified credentials with one-time password functionality. This allowed physicians to authenticate and send prescriptions electronically from anywhere, eliminating paper and storage costs. The results included a vastly improved patient experience with prescriptions often filled the same day, saving families several days of waiting.
