NASA needed a better way to track thousands of high-value assets across its many centers and facilities, as its barcode-based inventory process was costly, time-consuming, and often inaccurate. Working with HID Global’s RFID asset management solution, NASA sought a more reliable, flexible way to manage laboratory, testing, and data center equipment in a lean staffing environment.

HID Global implemented passive UHF RFID tags, handheld scanners, and customized software integrated with NASA’s SAP asset database, along with training and rollout support across multiple sites. The result was a fully integrated solution that improved inventory time by about 30%, enabled tagging of more than 250,000 assets, and scaled successfully across 12 NASA locations.
