Mutual Insurance Leader EMC Protects Its Leadership Position with Johnson Controls and HID

EMC Insurance Companies, a mutual insurance leader, faced a significant security challenge as its outdated Westinghouse access control system was becoming obsolete and vulnerable. The system's proprietary nature and lack of support put the security of confidential policyholder and tenant data at risk. EMC partnered with vendor HID Global and integrator Johnson Controls to replace the system with a modern solution.

The implemented solution utilized HID Global's iCLASS R40 and R90 readers along with smart cards to secure the entire campus. The new system provided enhanced security through encryption and mutual authentication, and its flexibility allowed for future expansion and integration with other applications. The result was a dramatic increase in security for 1,800 employees across multiple buildings with minimal business disruption, and employees experienced immediate benefits like faster elevator access.
