Preview of the Angolan Government Agency Case Study

Modernizing the Angolan government agency voter ID program

An Angolan government agency sought to modernize its voter ID program to enroll more citizens and reduce costs ahead of the 2017 elections. Their challenge was to deploy a decentralized, secure, and highly mobile issuance solution that could operate in remote areas with poor infrastructure. They partnered with HID Global to find a faster, more reliable, and cost-effective printing system.

HID Global collaborated with a systems integrator to develop a customized, Wi-Fi enabled Android app and a driverless printing solution using their FARGO DTC5500LMX ID card printers. This mobile system allowed government employees to issue secure IDs on the spot using tablets and motorbikes to reach remote villages. The result was the successful issuance of 4.5 million voter IDs within six months, with HID Global's solution providing 40% savings in the total cost of ownership and significantly higher security against fraud.
