Modernizing Tanzania’s Passport and Border Control Solution

The government of Tanzania faced the challenge of modernizing its national passport and border control services within an ambitious four-month timeline. They partnered with vendor HID Global and its local partners to implement a new, highly secure e-Passport system, which required minimal disruption to existing processes and also needed to support future services like e-Visas.

HID Global implemented its Integrale software suite to deliver a complete e-Passport issuance and border control solution. This included a secure passport booklet with an electronic datapage, mobile enrollment for remote areas, and a new web portal for applications. As a result, Tanzania successfully launched its new e-Passport system on schedule, providing its citizens with a modern, secure credential and laying the foundation for future digital identity services.
