Case Study: MEGTEC achieves safer access control and durable ID cards with HID Global Fargo printers

A HID Global Case Study

Preview of the Megtec Case Study

MEGTEC uses HID® Prox technology and HID® FARGO® printers to print their ID cards

Megtec, a manufacturer of industrial equipment, faced significant safety and security challenges. Their employees often worked in dangerous environments requiring strict lockout/tagout controls and confined space entry, necessitating verifiable training credentials. Furthermore, they needed to protect proprietary equipment by securing facility access. Existing ID card systems were unreliable, with printers that frequently broke down and jammed. They turned to HID Global for a solution, implementing the Fargo DTC510 Direct-to-Card Printer/Encoder and HID proximity technology.

The solution from HID Global provided durable, high-quality ID cards that were quick and easy to produce. The Fargo printer's reliability eliminated previous maintenance issues, and the smart card technology allowed Megtec to securely encode and easily update employee access levels. The result was a highly sophisticated access control system with 12 control points and 8 access levels, enhancing both physical security and safety protocol compliance. The durable cards, costing only $2.00 each, met all OSHA requirements and provided a personal touch to lockout procedures, making them more effective.
