Leading Drug Store Chain - Customer Case Study

A leading drug store chain in the United States faced challenges with inefficient and insecure password-based authentication for its pharmacy staff and point-of-sale (POS) systems. This reliance on shared passwords hindered workflow productivity, reduced accountability for processing prescriptions, and created potential for fraud. To address this, the chain partnered with HID Global for a more secure and efficient solution.

HID Global implemented its HID DigitalPersona fingerprint biometrics solution. This allowed pharmacists and cashiers to log in using their fingerprints, eliminating the need for passwords and ensuring proof of presence. The successful implementation began in the pharmacy and was later expanded to over 15,000 POS terminals chain-wide. The results included a streamlined workflow for faster prescription fulfillment, improved customer service with shorter lines, and significantly reduced fraud at the point-of-sale due to non-transferable manager approvals.
