Kenyan Health Care Fund Improves Efficiency with In-House ID Card System

The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), a Kenyan government healthcare organization, faced challenges with its outdated paper-based member ID system, which was inefficient and vulnerable to fraud. To improve security and patient satisfaction, NHIF sought an in-house solution to produce modern, durable ID cards. They partnered with HID Global, implementing the Fargo DTC500 Direct-to-Card Printer/Encoder to modernize their card issuance process.

HID Global's Fargo printer solution enabled NHIF to quickly produce secure, plastic ID cards with photos and magnetic stripes linked directly to their central database. This allowed hospitals to instantly verify member eligibility and reduce fraudulent claims. The results for NHIF included a significant decrease in claim rejections, a major reduction in fraud, and vastly improved operational efficiency, establishing one of the largest and most secure hospital networks in Kenya.
