Case Study: UPM reduces transport delays and boosts productivity with HID Global access control

A HID Global Case Study

Preview of the UPM Case Study

International energy producer UPM elevates its access control to eliminate traffic delays and boost productivity

UPM, an international energy producer, faced significant challenges with employee authentication at its pulp mill in Fray Bentos, Uruguay. The process of verifying personnel boarding company buses was cumbersome, causing major traffic delays, reducing productivity, and creating a security bottleneck, especially in bad weather. To address this inefficiency, UPM partnered with HID Global to find a better solution.

HID Global, through partner Alutel Mobility, implemented a solution using HID Seos smart cards and OMNIKEY mobile readers integrated with tablets. This allowed security staff to verify employee identities quickly on the buses without needing an internet connection. The results were dramatically improved, with traffic delays lessened and lost productivity hours curbed. The system now registers approximately 14,000 authentication events monthly, providing UPM with real-time security data and a seamless access control experience.
