How Rentex Used RFID to Streamline Rental Asset Management

Rentex, one of the largest wholesale audio and video rental companies in the USA, faced significant operational inefficiencies. Their manual processes for checking gear in and out were time-consuming and prone to human error, costing thousands of hours each month. To solve this, they partnered with HID Global and implemented an RFID tagging system to automate the tracking of their vast inventory of rental assets.

HID Global provided durable RFID tags specifically designed for the rental industry, including models for metal assets, general surfaces, and cables. This solution, integrated with software from Rental Tracker, allowed Rentex to streamline operations dramatically. The results were substantial, including reducing one process from 2.5 hours to 15 minutes (a 95% reduction) and cutting a check-in process from 22 minutes to just 10 seconds (a 99.24% reduction), leading to major gains in efficiency and accuracy.
