A HID Global Case Study

Preview of the Arizona State University Case Study

How HID Global's mobile access technology improved security at Arizona State University

Arizona State University (ASU) wanted to improve the security and convenience of campus housing access while reducing the burden of managing traditional room keys and ID cards. Working with HID Global, ASU piloted a mobile access solution that moved Sun Card credentials onto NFC smartphones for residence hall and selected room entry.

HID Global implemented iCLASS SE readers, HES electric strikes, and Sargent Profile Series electromechanical locks integrated with the Lenel OnGuard system, enabling students and staff to use their phones as digital keys. The pilot delivered strong results: nearly 79% said smartphones were as convenient or more convenient than Sun Cards, 55% said transactions were as fast, and almost 90% wanted to use mobile access across campus, showing clear gains in usability and security.
