High-Tech Access Control System Provides Safety and Security in Advanced Scientific Research Facility

The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences needed an advanced security system to automate access control and protect staff in its high-risk radiation laboratories. Their previous manual key-based process was inefficient and created a significant safety risk of personnel being accidentally exposed to radiation. To address this, they worked with vendor HID Global to implement a more secure, automated solution.

HID Global provided a custom solution integrating its HID ProxPro and MiniProx readers with a networked security system. The readers were specially modified to withstand the radioactive environment and now provide real-time monitoring of personnel entering and exiting, ensuring the lab is clear before operations begin. This system dramatically improved safety, significantly reduced the possibility of accidents, and automated the access control process for the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
