HID RFID Technology Provides Layer of Authentication Needed to Verify Berkel Brand

Berkel, a manufacturer of high-quality meat slicers, faced the challenge of protecting its brand and customers from counterfeit products. To address this, the company sought to implement a near field communication (NFC) solution for product authentication and to create a digital channel for customer engagement. They partnered with vendor HID Global to utilize its RFID technology for this initiative.

The solution involved embedding HID Global's Trusted Tag® Services into Berkel slicers, providing a secure, cryptographic NFC tag for verification via smartphone. This allowed customers to authenticate their product and register for an extended warranty, unlocking exclusive content. As a result, HID Global's technology helped Berkel confirm product authenticity, increase customer trust, and establish a new communication channel. The initial rollout was so successful for over 4,000 units that Berkel plans to expand the technology to its electric slicer line.
