HID® Helps the University of Auckland Build a New Sustainable and Efficient ID Card Printing Program

The University of Auckland, New Zealand’s largest university, needed to improve its ID card printing and management process, which was slow, inefficient, and wasteful. Problems with hardware, high staff turnover, and limited visibility across multiple sites caused delays, frustration, and an ID card failure rate of about 10%. HID Global, working through partner ColorID, was brought in to help modernize the university’s card issuance program with HID FARGO Connect and HDP6600 printers.

HID Global implemented an integrated ID card solution that centralized hardware, software, consumables, and support, while the HDP6600 delivered faster, high-quality card printing. The new system reduced print time from up to 10 minutes to under 2 minutes, enabled up to 200 cards per day, and cut waste and failure rates significantly, saving an estimated $7,000–$8,000 annually. The University of Auckland also gained easier remote management, better inventory control, and a smoother experience for staff and students.
