HID Global’s Revolutionizes Shaanxi’s Road Transportation Permit Card Program with FARGO® High-Definition Printers

The Shaanxi Province Department of Transportation needed a faster, more secure way to issue large volumes of road transportation permit cards while replacing vulnerable paper-based permits. Working with HID Global, the department looked for a solution that could protect against forgery, securely store vehicle and driver data, and support a simple issuance process connected to China’s nationwide vehicle network.

HID Global implemented 159 FARGO® HDP5000 high-definition security printers/encoders at more than 80 issuance points. The solution enabled rapid, durable smart-card production with embedded chip encoding, improved security and data storage, and easier network-wide issuance. As a result, Shaanxi issued more than 1.5 million permit cards in six months, while also reducing training time and minimizing printing damage or failures.
