Case Study: FIS-Ski achieves faster, more secure accreditation with HID Global iCLASS access control

A HID Global Case Study

Preview of the FIS-Ski Case Study

HID Global's iCLASS smart card technology provided high security for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships

The customer, FIS, a major international ski federation, faced a significant security and logistical challenge managing access and accreditation for the 2011 Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo. With over 1.2 million visitors, athletes, and media, they needed a system to control access to various zones, prevent long queues, and operate on a mobile, wireless network. They partnered with vendor HID Global and its channel partners to find a solution built on HID's iCLASS smart card technology.

HID Global, along with partners Infratek and SMI, implemented a mobile access control system using PDAs and identification cards embedded with HID iCLASS chips. This solution enabled fast, secure accreditation checks and real-time database updates over a wireless network, giving security personnel full control and flexibility across the large venue. The results were highly successful, streamlining the entire accreditation process and providing the event's security team with superior control, as confirmed by the Chief of Security.
