A HID Global Case Study
McColl’s Retail Group plc, operating 1,550 UK locations with about 18,000 store colleagues, needed to replace a manual time-and-attendance process in its colleague management system. The company wanted a more accurate, cost-effective way to track hours, stay compliant with UK National Minimum Wage rules, and reduce time theft, while avoiding the limitations of swipe cards and more expensive biometric options. HID Global provided the solution using HID DigitalPersona 4500 fingerprint readers.
HID Global implemented fingerprint-based clock-in and clock-out tracking integrated with McColl’s Oracle-based point-of-sale and colleague management systems. The rollout was completed in just a few months after a pilot, and the result was more accurate pay, easier audits, stronger accountability, and elimination of buddy punching. McColl’s Retail Group plc also reported improved confidence in compliance and employee fairness, with the HID Global readers performing reliably in a challenging retail environment.
