HID Global Helps Streamline Bhutan’s Driver License Issuance and Management System

The Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA) of Bhutan faced an inefficient and insecure driver license issuance system. Dependent on multiple vendors for consumables, the process was prone to delays, creating backlogs. Their old licenses lacked durability and robust security features, leading to fading and a significant counterfeit ID problem. To address this, the RSTA partnered with HID Global to find a more streamlined and secure solution.

HID Global implemented its FARGO HDP5000 high definition printers/encoders, which provided a single-source solution for all printing needs. The new system enabled the RSTA to quickly clear its backlog and issue highly secure, durable, and high-quality licenses. The results included a significant drop in requests for replacement cards, annual waste savings, and a observed decline in the circulation of counterfeit IDs, greatly assisting law enforcement efforts.
