HID Global® BEEKs™ BLE™ Beacons Monitor Belgian Trains’ Locations With Far Greater Precision Than GPS

The National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS/SNCB) faced challenges with inaccurate GPS signals at its stations, which delayed critical safety procedures and train departures. To overcome this, NMBS/SNCB partnered with HID Global to implement a solution using HID's BEEKs BLE beacons and real-time location services for precise, reliable train location tracking.

HID Global deployed a system of Bluetooth beacons at station platforms to communicate with train attendants' devices, overriding unreliable GPS. This solution eliminated manual workarounds, improved safety, and enhanced punctuality. Following a successful pilot, NMBS/SNCB expanded the system to multiple stations with over 80 beacons, making the safety process more efficient and dependable.
