HID Facial Recognition Technology Enhances Security & Automates Border Control For Indonesia Immigration & Seaport Authorities

Indonesia Immigration faced long queues, slow manual identity checks, and security concerns at the busy Batam Center seaport, where about 500,000 people pass through five seaports each year. To improve border control and traveler experience, Indonesia Immigration looked for a fast, contactless, and secure way to automate verification, using HID Global technology.

HID Global implemented the HID U.ARE.U™ Camera Identification System as the facial recognition component of the Autogate border crossing system, paired with a document reader for self-service verification. The solution cut identity checks from minutes to seconds, drastically reduced wait queues, improved throughput, and lowered manual workloads for officers while strengthening security through faster matching and database checks.
