HID Contactless Readers Help Power Italy’s Electronic Identity Card System

Internavigare, an Italian IT services and solutions company and major smart card reader distributor, needed to support Italy’s new Electronic Identity Card (CIE) rollout with secure, simple two-factor authentication for public services and other use cases. The challenge was to help users and organizations adapt to the new contactless identity process while ensuring fast, reliable access to card data.

HID Global provided the HID OMNIKEY 5022 contactless smart card reader, while Internavigare added software to capture and export CIE data and photos into formats like .docx, .xlsx, and .pdf. The solution was deployed seamlessly, required no special driver installation, and now supports several thousand users, with adoption expected to grow as CIE issuance continues.
