The munitions testing group at the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, Maryland, required a secure way to track keys in its highly explosive environment, where traditional electronic systems were a dangerous detonation risk and a manual sign-in log was impractical. HID Global, through the integrator ESTECH, provided a solution using its proximity technology.

The solution utilized passive HID ProxKey II and ProxCard II tags attached to keys, which posed no explosive hazard. When passed by HID ProxPro readers, the system efficiently registered keys being checked out and returned. This HID Global system provided a simple, cost-effective, and intrinsically safe access control method that improved accountability and operational efficiency.
