Erste Group Elevates Banking Experience With Cloud-Based Authentication From HID to Serve Millions Across Europe

Erste Group, a leading bank in Central and Eastern Europe, needed to simplify and secure its digital banking experience across multiple markets. Managing separate George and authenticator apps created confusion for customers, inconsistent UX, and extra support burden, while the bank also had to protect users from fake banking apps and support secure authentication at scale. HID Global provided the authentication technology used in the George banking journey, including HID Approve powered by the Authentication Platform.

HID Global implemented HID Approve SDK integration into George to replace multiple authentication setups with one unified, mobile-first solution that supports PSD2, Open Banking, and flexible SCA methods such as OTP and biometrics. The phased rollout helped ensure a smooth migration, with 3.5 million users moved in Romania and the Czech Republic in four months and more than 4 million active customers using George by the end of 2023, generating over 100 million monthly logins.
