The Leading Automobile Company, one of Europe’s largest automakers, needed a better way to track high-value engine containers moving between plants and to improve transparency over a barcode-based system. Working with HID Global, the company evaluated RFID asset tracking and tested on-metal tags for a challenging environment with metal engine blocks and containers.

HID Global supplied HID EXO RAIN RFID UHF tags, along with supporting readers, software, and SAP integration for the pilot. The solution delivered real-time visibility, precise calculation of container circulation times, and faster identification of losses or issues, while also reducing the overall container circulation process. Based on these results, the Leading Automobile Company plans to expand RFID tracking to additional engine types and smaller automotive containers.
