Cryogatt and HID Global Improve Processes for the Most Critical Assets

NIBSC, a global leader in biological medicines, needed a better way to track and manage about 200,000 cryogenically stored vials across liquid nitrogen freezers. Its manual and older label-based process had error rates and made it difficult to quickly locate samples while protecting them from warming above critical temperatures. HID Global, working with Cryogatt, provided an RFID-based cryogenic tracking system using HF Vigo™ Direct Bonding tags and specialized readers.

HID Global’s solution enabled NIBSC to tag and accurately track vials at temperatures down to -196°C, improving inventory accuracy and auditability. The result was zero RFID tag failures over two years, retrieval times two to five times faster, and better use of limited freezer space, with the system moving toward routine deployment across NIBSC’s cell banking operation.
