Columbia County Sheriff - Customer Case Study

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office needed to strengthen cybersecurity and meet FBI CJIS advanced authentication requirements without making logins harder for officers. To address the challenge, the agency partnered with HID Global and looked for a more secure alternative to username-and-password access for its network and computers.

HID Global implemented smart card-based two-factor authentication using the HID Crescendo card, PINs, and the HID ActivID Credential Management System (CMS) to manage access for more than 180 network users. The result was improved security, easier logon for officers, and compliance with FBI requirements, while also reducing risk from stolen laptops and enabling the agency to use the cards as official ID badges.
