Co-operative Financial Services (CFS), a major UK financial institution, faced rising fraud and phishing attacks targeting its online banking services. The bank needed a strong authentication solution to secure customer accounts, protect its trusted brand, and comply with regulations, all while ensuring the solution was convenient for its users. CFS selected HID Global's ActivID® Appliance to serve as the foundation for this security initiative.

HID Global implemented its ActivID Appliance, which initially allowed retail customers to authenticate using their existing EMV chip bank cards and a reader. This solution dramatically reduced fraud to acceptable risk levels and virtually eliminated phishing attacks. Due to its success, CFS expanded the versatile ActivID platform to its business banking customers using dedicated tokens. The deployment secured nearly one million users, provided a centralized audit trail for compliance, and established a future-proof security platform for new services.
