City of Oklahoma City increases uniformity of ID card system to enhance city’s security

The City of Oklahoma City faced the challenge of creating a uniform and secure identification card system for its employees, vendors, and contractors following the events of 9/11 and the subsequent Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12. To enhance security and prevent unauthorized access, the city required a solution that would produce difficult-to-duplicate ID cards with the ability to add visible security features. The city partnered with HID Global, implementing Fargo HDP600-L and HDP820 High Definition Card Printer/Encoders.

HID Global's solution provided the city with the ability to print high-security ID cards in-house, featuring photos as the predominant visual element and the later addition of a custom holographic overlay for easy authentication. The cards were integrated with the access control system, allowing multiple administrators to manage permissions and track entry. As a result, the City of Oklahoma City successfully issued approximately 4,000 cards, achieving a highly uniform system that improved visual identification, controlled facility access, and enabled detailed tracking of personnel for enhanced security.
