BMA International Taps HID Optical Fingerprint Readers to End Point-of-Sale Fraud

BMA International, a Dubai-based fashion retailer, faced a significant challenge with point-of-sale fraud in its stores across the Middle East. A previous smart card authentication system was frequently misused, leading to unauthorized transaction voids and revenue loss. The company partnered with HID Global to find a secure biometric solution that would be compatible with its Oracle Retail Xstore system.

The solution was the deployment of over 1,100 HID DigitalPersona 4500 Fingerprint Readers. This implementation by HID Global required a supervisor's physical presence for authentication, which nearly eliminated all POS fraud and abuse. The results also included a significant improvement in employee attendance and punctuality, directly stopping both revenue and inventory leakage.
