Arriva - Customer Case Study

Arriva, a major public transport company in the Netherlands, faced a challenge securing its numerous remote bus stations. Its old magnetic stripe access system was ineffective for managing 40 depots across the country. The company needed a secure, stand-alone IP-based access control solution that could be managed remotely from its headquarters. To meet this need, Arriva partnered with vendor HID Global to implement its Edge product line.

The solution implemented by HID Global involved the IP-based EdgePlus controllers and SmartID readers using DESFire technology. This provided a cost-effective, secure system that was easy to install and allowed for remote management. An added benefit was the compatibility of HID cards with the existing on-board login systems in Arriva's buses. The rollout began in 2009 and was planned for completion by the end of 2010, ultimately securing offices with 80 controllers and 2,000 new credentials.
