Waitaki District Council - Customer Case Study

Waitaki District Council faced a challenge modernizing how it shared planning and land-use information with its roughly 22,300 residents: public-facing maps were limited to static PDFs and requests for parcel information were time-consuming. To support the revision of its district plan under New Zealand’s Resource Management Act, WDC needed an interactive, publicly accessible mapping solution. Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division supplied GeoMedia products (GeoMedia Professional, GeoMedia Smart Client and GeoMedia WebMap) to meet that need.

Using Hexagon's GeoMedia suite, WDC implemented a two-stage solution—data preparation and validation with GeoMedia Professional and GeoMedia Smart Client, then a public-facing GeoMedia WebMap portal embedded on the council website. The portal lets residents, planners and consultants self-serve address searches and layered maps (zoning, utilities, hazards, heritage, etc.), supports a three-month public engagement on the revised plan, reduces manual report requests and topology rework, and advances the council’s digital transformation by making planning data transparent and readily available.
