A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study
Stadtwerke Bayreuth, the municipal energy and water utility in Bayreuth, Germany, faced limitations with a CAD-based network information system that hindered integration, data quality, and compliance with regulatory requirements. To replace it they sought an open, customizable GIS with centralized, high-quality graphic and attribute data and selected advanced utility GIS software from Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division to support migration and future multi-utility needs.
Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division customized a pre-configured GIS to handle gas, water, cadastre and topography, using feature-manipulation tools to standardize inconsistent legacy data and enabling DGPS-assisted field capture for immediate updates. The Hexagon solution delivered higher-quality enterprise data, faster and more accurate cable-length calculations, multi-line network views, regulatory statistics for the Federal Network Agency, mobile field access for outage management, and now supports about 40 information- and GIS seats across Stadtwerke Bayreuth.
