Second Street Optimizes Google Places API Autocomplete

Second Street, an audience-participation platform used by more than 4,000 companies for local “best of” balloting, faced nomination errors and duplicate entries when readers manually typed business names. To improve accuracy and usability, Second Street partnered with Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division to optimize the implementation of Google Maps Places Autocomplete (Google Places API) within its product.

Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division worked with Second Street’s developers to implement more efficient Autocomplete API calls and provide custom reporting, which reduced typing errors and duplicate ballot submissions and significantly cut unnecessary API consumption and costs. Those improvements kept the balloting product affordable for local media customers, helped Second Street better leverage the Google Maps Platform, and protected ad revenue streams for outlets and local businesses.
