Romanian Energy Network Turns Up the Heat to Improve Efficiency

Termoficare Oradea, which manages 219.5 km of district heating serving over 63,000 households, 226 public institutions and about 1,937 businesses in Oradea, Romania, faced potential shutdown unless it modernized its aging network and met environmental and energy-efficiency regulations. To address this, the company engaged Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division—via Platinum partner Intergraph Computer Services—to deploy a geospatial software solution using GeoMedia Professional, GeoMedia Smart Client, WebGIS and Hexagon Geospatial’s Power Portfolio® to support both physical upgrades (including 17.5 km of pre-insulated pipeline replacement) and improved operational management.

Intergraph Computer Services implemented a centralized enterprise geodatabase, role-based views for developers, operators, dispatchers and management, thermodynamic modelling, field-data import and a public web app that shows real-time network status and sends SMS/email outage notifications (launched mid-2018). The Hexagon solution improved collaboration and decision-making, streamlined outage scheduling and reinstatement, increased transparency with customers through proactive alerts, and supported the planning and execution of the network rehabilitations that help Termoficare Oradea meet its efficiency and sustainability goals.
