A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study
Oklahoma DOT faced growing demand for oversize/overweight (OS/OW) permits—more than 200,000 routes a year—creating multi-day delays that hurt public safety and commerce. To modernize routing and permitting, the agency turned to Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division and deployed Hexagon’s Automated Routing for Oversize/Overweight Vehicles application (with Restriction Management) to automate and streamline the process.
Hexagon’s web-based routing and permitting solution (integrated with Google Maps and real‑time restriction updates) reduced average permit processing from 1–3 days to about 12 minutes, handled ~142,000 permits in the first six months (~15% more than prior years), increased auto‑approvals by up to 55%, generated US$3 million in additional revenue, cut overhead and staff time, and improved safety and infrastructure management. Hexagon's implementation also enabled clearer tracking and earlier daily clearance of permits.
