New Zealand Police Effectively Deploys 345 More Officers in the Field

New Zealand Police, the country’s largest law enforcement agency, needed a simple mobile solution to put critical, real-time data into the hands of first responders and shift policing from office-based tasks to proactive, field-focused work. Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division extended its existing computer-aided dispatch (CAD) capabilities into an easy-to-use mobile app for iPhones and iPads to improve officer situational awareness, safety, and data consistency with dispatchers.

Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division deployed the app to 6,500 frontline officers, reducing trips to station, cutting radio traffic, and improving communications with dispatch and other responders. The rollout required minimal training, is estimated to save NZ$300 million over 12 years, and saves at least half an hour per officer per day (about 520,000 hours annually), enabling New Zealand Police to redeploy 345 more officers into the field and support a more proactive, community-focused policing model that has contributed to reduced crime.
