A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study

Preview of the Mobile County Communications District Case Study

Mobile Command Unit equipped with Hexagon CAD technology aids in major event, natural disaster response

Mobile County Communications District (MCCD) in south Alabama serves more than 412,000 residents, handles about 350,000 calls annually across 15 partner agencies, and faces extreme population surges (up to 1.2 million attendees for Mardi Gras) and seasonal hurricane threats. As a longtime Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division customer, MCCD needed a portable, resilient public safety answering point (PSAP) and dispatch capability, and selected Hexagon’s computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) solution to meet that challenge.

Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division equipped MCCD’s Mobile Command Unit with its CAD system plus P25 radio, multiple satellite links, internet connectivity, geofencing call routing and full integration with MCCD’s public safety software. Since launching in August 2020 the unit has enabled on‑scene, multiagency dispatching, maintained 911 continuity during Hurricane Sally by serving as Baldwin County’s PSAP until power and internet were restored, and improved response capacity for large events and disasters.
