A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study
MITNETZ STROM, a German regional distribution operator serving 2.3 million people across more than 74,000 km of network, needed to aggregate, integrate and standardize fragmented technical and spatial data after consolidating several utilities and to meet EU-driven smart grid requirements. To provide a central platform for long-term planning, mobile field capture, and enterprise-wide access, MITNETZ STROM selected Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division to implement an advanced GIS and electricity data model.
Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division integrated MITNETZ STROM’s technical and spatial data into an open, standards-based relational data warehouse, delivered web access and mobile tablet workflows, and established role-based access and multi-stage quality assurance. The solution enabled automated analyses (network load modeling, solar power register, low-voltage evaluation), a secure intranet that now handles about 80% of asset location requests without manual intervention, and a measurable return on investment with an operational-ready network model for proactive asset and grid management.
