A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study
The Metropolitan City of Milan needed to produce a comprehensive census and strengthen safety and maintenance of its extensive bridge network across roughly 1,500 square kilometers to meet Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) guidelines. To address this, the City engaged Planetek Italia to deploy Rheticus Safeway — a satellite monitoring application powered by Hexagon’s M.App Enterprise — using technology from Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division.
Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division enabled a cloud-based, satellite-derived monitoring solution (Rheticus Safeway) that delivers automated subsidence alerts, a monthly-updated Inspection Priority Score and a simple dashboard for prioritizing inspections. The system shortened inspection and maintenance timelines, increased inspection frequency and targeting, optimized resource allocation to reduce costs, helped prevent infrastructure failures, and improved decision-making and confidence in the City’s bridges.
