A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study
Madhya Pradesh Forestry Department, responsible for managing over 77,000 km² of forest and coordinating 15,228 Joint Forest Management Committees that protect roughly 70% of the state’s forests, needed a way to monitor multi-year forest cover, detect encroachment and illegal mining, and make large volumes of satellite and GIS data instantly available to stakeholders. To meet this challenge they partnered with Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division and deployed ERDAS IMAGINE Professional and ERDAS APOLLO to exploit, catalog and serve their geospatial imagery and datasets.
Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division implemented ERDAS IMAGINE for image processing and Spatial Modeler workflows and ERDAS APOLLO to automatically catalog imagery (LISS III/IV, WorldView), harvest metadata, publish OGC services and run server-side on-demand change-detection. The solution enabled time-series and NDVI change analysis, fast delivery and role-based access to data, and reliable detection and quantification of deforestation, tree growth, encroachment and illegal mining—streamlining reporting and decision-making across the department.
