Case Study: Luciad Technology achieves real-time situational awareness for NATO air and joint operations with Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division

A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study

Preview of the Luciad Technology Case Study

Luciad Technology Used to Support NATO Air and Joint Operations Capability

Luciad Technology was tasked with modernizing NATO’s Integrated Command and Control (ICC) to support air and joint operations in a services-oriented, real‑time C4ISTAR environment. To meet the need for high‑performance geospatial visualization, multi‑source Common Operating Picture (COP) aggregation, and rapid dissemination across NATO and partner networks, Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division provided the LuciadLightspeed solution to handle fast‑moving objects and complex OGC service backgrounds.

Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division implemented LuciadLightspeed into ICC, delivering GPU‑accelerated, multi‑core geospatial rendering, database replication, and broad format/symbology support (APP6/Mil2525, KML, GARS/CGRS). The integration enabled ICC to display and update over 10,000 air tracks with display cycles as low as 300 ms, support joint mission planning and execution across CAOCs and headquarters, improve situational awareness from theatre to tactical levels, and directly support operations such as ISAF convoy tracking and ISR-driven targeting.
