A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study
Huntsville-Madison County 911 Center, a 30,000-square-foot combined dispatch facility serving eight public-safety agencies and 200 employees, needed to modernize operations to support rapid population growth and reliably handle more than 240,000 emergency calls per year. To address this, the center partnered with Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division and implemented Hexagon’s computer-aided dispatch (CAD) solution to replace legacy switchboard and map-based processes.
Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division delivered an integrated CAD system—incorporating text-to-911, scripted call-taking, locator and mobile-unit integration, and a full secondary 911 phone backup—that automates key functions and creates a common operating picture across agencies. The result is Alabama’s largest and most advanced emergency communications center: improved interagency coordination and resiliency, support for 200+ mobile units, seamless overflow handling, and continued capability to dispatch roughly 240,000 emergency calls annually.
