Germany’s Kassel Fire Brigade Aids Refugee Crisis with Emergency Planning and Response Solution

Kassel Fire Brigade in Kassel, Germany was confronted with the complex challenge of coordinating rapid relief and shelter for thousands of refugees while working across multiple public safety, medical and relief organizations. To meet this need, Kassel Fire Brigade implemented computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and a web-based major event management solution from Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division to alert and dispatch personnel, route to incident sites, and share operational information across agencies.

Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division’s integrated CAD and major event management system centralized situational awareness and resource allocation, enabling the brigade to set up accommodations quickly (including providing shelter for 400 people in under eight hours), coordinate across 115 brigades and numerous agencies, and support a control center that handles over 110,000 responses annually. The solution improved information sharing and workflow visualization—supporting 15–20 managed events per month—and delivered immediate, comprehensive data access for all responders, measurably increasing operational efficiency and crisis responsiveness.
