Case Study: Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company achieves integrated GIS for port infrastructure management and vessel monitoring with Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division

A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study

Preview of the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company Case Study

Foundation of Bulgarian Sea and River Ports Infrastructure Built with GIS Technology

Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company, the state agency managing Bulgaria’s sea and river port infrastructure, needed to collect and integrate diverse data sources, track vessel movements, and assess the condition of port assets while meeting EU requirements and modernizing operations. To address this, the agency selected Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division technologies—primarily GeoMedia® and GeoMedia WebMap—as the core geospatial framework.

Working with TechnoLogica and deploying products from Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division, the team built a scalable GIS that centralizes spatial data, supports web clients, asset and digital-archive management, and provides an INSPIRE‑compatible portal. The system delivers real‑time monitoring of ship movements on the Danube and Black Sea, established common spatial object models and an operational picture of infrastructure, and streamlined data exchange and decision‑making to improve shipping conditions and support ongoing rehabilitation and modernization.
