Edmonton Fire Rescue Services Speeds Emergency Routing with Municipal GIS Data

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) provides fire suppression, rescue and hazardous-material response across Edmonton and needed faster, more accurate routing and dispatch to protect lives and property. As a longtime customer of Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division, EFRS prepared for a CAD upgrade and required integration of municipal spatial datasets and a common interactive map so public safety organizations and crews could share the same situational view.

Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division implemented the CAD upgrade, enhanced web and mobile capabilities, integrated Edmonton’s SLIM GIS database, and deployed interoperability tools linking EFRS with Alberta Health Services for electronic dispatch notifications. The shared map and improved routing enabled Quick Accept dispatching and real‑time sharing of pre‑incident data (road closures, out‑of‑service hydrants); EFRS reports Quick Accept has already reduced response times by at least 30 seconds and is advancing toward a four‑minute on‑scene goal.
