A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study
E-Comm, the emergency communications center serving roughly 2 million residents of southwest British Columbia and handling more than 1 million 911 calls a year, faced rapid growth as new regional agencies signed on and its legacy computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system became inadequate. The organization needed a scalable, interoperable CAD with mobile and web dispatch capabilities, intelligent mapping, third-party integration, and improved response times to support multi-agency, multi-jurisdiction operations.
E-Comm selected Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division’s CAD solution to replace its legacy system; Hexagon’s platform was implemented to support fire dispatch for Vancouver, Delta, Richmond, Whistler, Port Moody and the Sunshine Coast, and is built to scale to additional districts. The Hexagon system provides mobile/web dispatch, RMS interoperability, a fully redundant database for continuity, and automated “combined events” with BC Ambulance — delivering improved situational mapping, smoother multi-site data sharing, and a cost-effective hosted option that lets E-Comm add agencies quickly while maintaining reliable service for its large 911 workload.
